ChemTracker - A Customer's Experience Webinar

Webinar Q&As

If your question was not answered or you have additional questions, please contact sales@scishield.com or visit Let's Talk page to schedule a meeting with our team.

Q: Do you do the trainings or just track them?

A: SciShield is a comprehensive training management solution, but we do not create our own training content. For training courses, SciShield has a partnership with Vivid/HSI and SciShield customers receive three courses for free course plus discounts on other HSI courses. We are happy to help guide you to find the right training content. Please contact us to learn more by visiting: https://www.scishield.com/lets-talk.

Q: Are SDS’s updated automatically?

A: SciShield is integrated with an online SDS database that is updated regularly

Q: Any thought to doing this for Biosafety?

A: Yes! We plan to host several product webinars throughout the year, and biosafety is certainly one of them. In the meantime, please visit https://www.scishield.com/module/biosafety-registration to learn more about our biosafety solution.

Q: What's the starting cost?

A: Pricing depends on the size and scope of work. Our packages start under $10,000 for small organizations and non-profits and scale up from there. This is very dependent on size and scope, and we would need to speak with you to learn more about your needs. Please email sales@scishield.com or feel free to schedule a brief call with us by visiting https://www.scishield.com/lets-talk

Q: How do you make sure empty containers get removed from inventory?

A: Our EHSS staff currently takes care of all inventories from in to out. We have out of inventory placards that we have posted in each lab. When containers are empty, the researcher places the barcode onto the placard. Our team at EHSS goes around and scans barcodes out of inventory and removes them from the placard.

Q: How does SciShield classify chemicals, do you review the classifications?

A: Data classifications entered by a junior curator would be reviewed by a senior curator.

Q: How does SciShield deal with chemicals not in the library?

A: Chemicals outside of the library may be tracked as local unlinked chemicals. EHS/oversight level users have the option to add regulatory data to these chemicals and pull in certain properties from PubChem.

Q: How is inventory linked to reference data if it was not picked off the reference list?

A: EHS/oversight level users have the option to add regulatory data to these chemicals and pull in certain properties from PubChem.

Q: We are interested in any integrations you may have with purchasing systems and if you have any prepurchase approval/review mechanism?

A: A pre-purchase approval/review mechanism is available with the chemical order tracking request system.

Q: Tell us more about lab waste management?

A: The SciShield Hazard Waste Pickup Module may be of interest for this need. To learn more, please visit https://www.scishield.com/modules/hazardous-waste-pickup and/or contact sales@scishield.com for more information.

Q: How do you minimizing/tracking chemical purchasing and subsequent waste disposal?

A: ChemTracker’s Peer Chemical Search tool is a great feature for preventing excess chemical ordering and reducing waste costs. This optional tool enables scientists to do a restricted search of chemicals within other laboratories' inventories.

Q: What integrations or connectivity does the system have with other systems (i.e., Peoplesoft, commercial SDS provider, waste management system, etc.).

A: SciShield integrates with many systems, especially for user management. As the needs for some of these integrations can vary, we would need to discuss specifics here to provide an answer. Please reach out to sales@scishield.com to set up a call.

Q: Inventory drift tools?

A: Reconciliation is an easy-to-use tool for completing yearly inventory audits and ensuring that chemical lists stay up to date.

Q: Does your system support reconciliation performed by students in large research groups?

A: Reconciliation can work even for thousands of chemical containers at one time. It can also be run on sublocations, such as a bench or shelf, to break up the process a bit.

Q: Does ChemTracker help to report pollution levels for the state of RI?

A: ChemTracker has numerous regulations built in, including EPA lists, OSHA regulated carcinogens, GHS data, and general hazards. At this time, we do not have a specific listed regulation for RI pollution levels, but the included hazard data may be of use.

Q: Units and quantities for reagents?

A: The unit conversion tool in ChemTracker lets you convert between any units, to ensure that lab inventories can be tracked in metric units while reports may be completed in pounds, gallons, and cubic feet. Please see https://chemtracker.scishield.com/ct-auto-convert-measurements.

Q: How are SDSs for individual product numbers found in the system?

A: SDS can be searched by chemical name, CAS number, and manufacturer to find the document you need.

Q: What type of chemicals can have access to their SDS (examples: pesticides & their metabolites)?

A: The SDS database has a million safety data sheet documents, covering laboratory chemicals, compressed gases, cleaning products, pesticides, and more.

Q: Can it import structure based on CAS?

A: Structure diagrams for visual reference can be pulled for each chemical by CAS number.

Q: Can ChemTracker be used for tracking equipment that is used with chemicals?

A: The SciShield Equipment Module would be best suited for this application. Please contact sales@scishield.com for more information.

Q: Does your software support HVAC in laboratories?

A: The SciShield Equipment Module has tools for tracking the certifications and maintenance of biosafety cabinets and fume hoods, which may be of interest. Please contact sales@scishield.com for more information.

Q: Limits of some hazardous substance in finished leather?

A: ChemTracker has numerous regulations built in, including EPA lists, OSHA regulated carcinogens, GHS data, and general hazards. At this time, we do not have a specific listed regulation for the limits of substances in finished leather, but the included hazard data may be of use.
